Mid-winter newborn session are just the thing to make your heart feel cozy. @maddsense , your close-knit family was a delight to photograph. 🥰 I loved getting to photograph the children in their own rooms. A stately and classy boy’s room…that mirror was a show stopper! And a soft and lovely color palette for your lovely daughter was perfect. I had so much fun capturing and celebrating the growth of family.

Hey moms, Valentine’s Day is coming, and we get to be the ones to make it a fun time for our people. ❤️❤️❤️ It doesn’t have to break the bank or take weeks of prep. Things I’ve done in the past: Red jello in goblets with cool whip. Heart shaped meat balls. Red velvet cake. Candle lit dinner. Fancy drinks like fruit spritzers. Chocolate covered strawberries. Here’s something to smile about, I am in the midst of finalizing dates for 2024 busy season. 🥳 This year, all the sessions will be scheduled through a sign-up link. Once the spots are taken, my year will be booked full. (I’m not very techy, but I think with the help of YouTube tutorials, I’ll be able to make one of those posts that if you write the word session link in the comments, I’ll be able to have it sent to you directly. “Just to have fun”. . . COMING SOON… Session Sign Ups! I hope to have my session dates for the spring/summer/fall season figured out and ready for release by the beginning of February. 🙌 The last few years I’ve had to refer families to other photographers because they waited too late into the season to book their session. Welcome to “snuggle season”… aka: winter nights. •Reading books together •Playing board games •Breaking out the puzzles •Rollerblading in the basement •Burning off extra energy by playing chase around the table •Bundling up for jumping on the trampoline It could also be called “sanctification season”! 😅😅😅 It’s the hard season of all nine of us being in the house, which means more temptation for all of us to become fussers. Having a list of “what is there to do” helps when temptation is knocking hard on the heart’s door. Each season has its woes and delights. As moms we help to set the atmosphere of our home. We can admit the hard (not suggesting we stuff it) and then give it to Jesus. Our future is not hidden from you Lord, that is a comfort…🙏❤️ It’s God’s kindness that he does not reveal to us all the hardships and delights that our future holds. We don’t have “the grace needed” now that we will be given then. We know, God’s grace will be given when we are in the midst of the hardship. If I had been told, when I got married, that I would birth two babies, miscarry our third child, and then be diagnosed with secondary infertility at age 29 and have a hysterectomy by age 36… that would have sunk me into a depression. The weight would have been too heavy to carry. But God in his kindness revealed each burden in his perfect timing and allowed life to come from those places of what felt like death. I wouldn’t change that story he wrote because it changed me from a fearful person who “believed” in God to be true, into a trusting heart that has experienced God and now loves him. Yes, I still have fearful thoughts but now I know where to go with them. I can lay them at Jesus feet in exchange for his words of life. (The more I read the Word, the stronger my faith becomes. His words of life are before me daily.) He is so kind. Pain is an opportunity for bitterness or a doorway into a deeper knowing of Jesus Christ as our comforter. We don’t know the future, we don’t have God’s grace now for the future hardships. But what we do have now is faith…and trust. ❤️ We believe his word to be true. He says that He will be with us and that He holds us in his hands (John 20:22-30). There is nothing to fear when we are His. (Psalm 27:1) This is how we can turn our faces towards another unknown year of joys and sorrows, knowing our Good Shepherd will lead us. We are like a child being lead by our loving Father. With our hand in his, we can go where he leads us. He’s got us. It’s with joyful anticipation that we look to what is ahead. John 16:31-33 . . #newyear #encouragement #jesuswins

This is not about comparing ourselves to one another but rather looking to Jesus and asking him to show us the way. For some it means kicking things into gear a little more, for others it means slowing things down. It’s SITUATIONAL- but that’s the beauty of asking Jesus what he wants this Christmas season to look like for you and your family. He’s faithful to speak if we are seeking. And his words bring us life in abundance. This isn’t about moral obligation but rather obedience to Jesus and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. His spirit never contradicts his Holy Word, that’s our filter. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” - John 10:10 As we celebrate the birth of our savior- the idea of new life, life-giving sacrifice, eternal life…these themes run deep at Christmas- May we also be reminded of God’s extravagant love to us and the abundant life of hope, joy, and peace that is offered to those who love him. ❤️ . #captivatingcore #wildatheart #abundantlife #joyinjesus

This is a time of thankfulness, celebration and joy. But it quickly can become overwhelming and discouraging. Holidays are also a time for lots of disappointments to be felt as there are expectations that go unmet. In those moments of overwhelm and disappointment, having our hearts turned to the father in prayer is what sustain us and help us to be joyful despite the chaos that threatens us. Be alert mommas, the enemy will try to steal our joy. Especially as we are making effort to turn our children’s hearts towards the joy and delight of this season where we intentionally remember the extravagant love and sacrifice of our Savior. The contrast of a man with his little baby. It speaks to the strength of a father. A father’s strength. It is to be feared by the enemy and brings security to the children. It protects and provides. When the father’s strength is submitted to, and encouraged by, a relationship with Jesus…that strength is as it should be. It becomes a reflection of our Heavenly Father. It’s true, Fathers will never do it perfectly on this side of heaven. But what a blessing it is to the family and world around him, when a father is invested in walking in step with the Spirit. I arrived on site to a brilliantly bright setting sun …and a looming, dark rain cloud that was coming in fast. We got one photo in and it suddenly down-poured!!! We dashed into a barn for shelter and watched the rain. Meanwhile the sun still blazed on and I desperately wanted to be out shooting in its light. Finally, after about 10-15 minutes the rain clouds cleared, but dusk had officially set in. Thankfully these dear hearts were super flexible and we still got some lovely images. It felt like the last, late night hoorah, of golden summer glow. ❤️

There is something so fun about photographing returning clients, they become your friend. This family has been a delight and especially this year with the addition of sweet Jirah! It is so fun to watch families grow. 🥰 We embraced the cloudy, chilly, fall-like day for their woodland session. Living on a strawberry farm might not be all fun and games…but it certainly was during this session! From “chicken fights” to ring-around-the-Rosie, it was a party with all these children! I felt so sentimental taking photos of this family, enjoying each others presence here on their farm. It is the place were working together and loving each other, collide. Not only was it a delight to walk the farm with them, but I also enjoyed taste testing their strawberries- absolutely delicious! "The pictures are amazing! I love the poses and especially the candids! Thank you for all of your work and quick turnaround!" - from a delightful client​​​​​​​​​ A fast turnaround... that is all thanks to my amazing editor! She makes me look good and I'm not ashamed to admit it. With the amount of sessions I'm taking on and the ages of my children, there is no way I could keep up and still be a homemaker for my family. It would take me WEEKS to deliver a gallery without Ali. She's the secret sauce to my fast delivery. Some people might wonder what it looks like to have an editor. I still edit every single gallery! But instead of editing 100 plus photos, I only do a handful of the images. After that, I send them all off to @alizurschmiede who edits the rest of the gallery based off of the images that I already edited. Say what?!? Yes, it's the best. Feels like Christmas every time I see that gallery pop into Lightroom with all the edits completed. When the gallery is returned to me, I review all the images and can make changes if needed before sending it out to my clients. Hiring an editor has saved me HOURS of time in front my computer. I now use that time to be with my family, keep up on household jobs and take more photos. ❤️ Delegating is releasing some of my control over the photo process, but it has been the best thing I've done to help my business grow and keep my sanity. p.s. Like every other small business owner: I absolutely LOVE when clients take the time to tell me that they are happy with their photos! Warms my heart every time. It's super encouraging! FEAR....​​​​​​​​​ Psalm 103:13: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." FEAR: in this verse, what does it mean? Here are two types of fear: 1: an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger 2: profound reverence and awe especially toward God Which camp do you find yourself in as you think of fear and it's association with God the Father? Remember, if you have proclaimed Jesus as God's son, repented of sin and asked him to be Lord of your life then you are his child! There is delight and joy and communion with God. As his child, this next verse about fear (def #1) applies to you... "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love." 1 John 4:18 If you find yourself living in fear of God, pursue him through his Word. Get to know him! Knowing him brings peace to fearful hearts. But if you have rejected, and continue to reject, God and his son Jesus- there is a good reason to be full of fear! If your heart yearns to be in good standing with him, ask him! He is not like an earthly parent who might struggle to forgive. He is perfect and Holy. He word says he will forgive those who repent. What could be better then a family session… a maternity/family photo shoot. 👌 When my dear friend (and fellow adoptive mom) asked about a wheat field session, my heart soared with delight. I’ve always wanted to try a wheat field. It did not disappoint. Neither did this fun-loving, crazy family! So fun to celebrate their love for each other as well as the new life God gave them. Can’t wait to meet this sweet babe! As Dad said tonight during the session, Baby is already photogenic…just like mom. 😉 #wheatfield #maternity

So. Much. Joy. Who would have thought it would be SO fun to photograph the wedding of “matured” lovers? But love has a way of bringing out the youthful spirit. The moment I met Henry, I knew why Darlene (Joel’s aunt) fell in love with him. She herself has such a beautiful soul that it should not have surprised me. Together they make a beautiful picture of Christ and his Church. As we celebrated their love and commitment today, two not only did they have a youthful spirit about them, but also a Jesus loving one. It was a double whammy of joy and delight! Today I felt God’s blessing and grace over this relationship. The adult children, who lost a mother, so lovingly embraced their father’s bride by giving her the name “mother” in the presence of us all. What a gift to love and be loved. . #marriage #maturedlove
